Graduate Research Assistant
Detroit, MI
Justin Petrusak is a graduate student and research assistant in the School of Social Work at Wayne State University. He received his Bachelors and Masters degree in Social Work from Wayne State University. Licensed as both a macro and clinical social worker, Justin has been working in the field of housing and homelessness since 2010, where he has also served as a field instructor for students from Wayne State University’s School of Social Work and School of Medicine. His research addresses differential care networks and time-geographies of older adults experiencing chronic homelessness in Detroit, and qualitatively explores the phenomenon of individual homelessness due to the death of a parent or parental figure. As a member of the trans-disciplinary research team at Wayne State University’s Relocation Lab, Justin is most-currently researching the impact of urban redevelopment and involuntary relocation of older adults, while exploring ways to preserve low-income housing and intergenerational diversity in redeveloping neighborhoods. His research interests include human geography, houselessness, meanings of home, and urban planning.
